Fusion of Southern USA style and Modern Australian Cuisine
The Star Hotel Yackandandah has been the centrepiece of the local community since 1863. A lot has changed since the Goldrush, but the Star Hotel remains a much-loved meeting place for folks looking to enjoy some time with friends over a few drinks or a delicious meal in the dining room. We love the local community atmosphere that still lives on at the Star Hotel, more than 150 years after its doors were first opened. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because The Star Hotel gained fame in the 2004 Paul Hogan film ‘Strange Bedfellows’, as well as being featured on ABC’s Backroads program.
Matt and Kim Frauenfelder took over The Star Hotel in 2016 and have restored to its previous glory as a thriving old time pub, with well-known local chef Matt providing a menu that centres around a fusion of Southern USA style and Modern Australian Cuisine.
Matt and Kim also love working with local suppliers with a full circle ethos. Their pigs and greens come straight from local supplier Yacks Ingredients, with scraps from our hotel and mash grain from our local drink partners Two Pot Brewery and Backwoods Distillery helping to feed the pigs over at Yacks. It’s just one of the many ways they continue to uphold the local community values of yesteryear.
